This mat is basically a light show wrapped around a PEMF mat: 117 multicolor LEDs, seven gemstones, one for each chakra, and enough visual appeal to make your meditation corner look like a page out of a spa catalog.

The idea is interesting. Instead of red lights only, you get the full rainbow spectrum, with one color for each chakra. And the PEMF goes up to 12 Gauss, which is quite high for a HealthyLine mat.

PEMF frequency is how many times per second the magnetic field pulses, and it is counted in hertz. The Rainbow Chakra Mat goes from 0.25 to 30 Hz. That is the normal range for basic PEMF technology, nothing fancy, and it covers most treatments and conditions.

12GaussPEMF Intensity

Intensity tells you how strong the magnetic field is, and it is measured in gauss. The Rainbow Chakra Mat reaches 12 Gauss. That is a medium intensity, so the treatment reaches deeper into the tissue, and it is still safe to use.

6PEMF Coils

A coil is a loop of copper wire built into the mat: when the controller drives current through it, that is what creates the pulsed field, so it is hardware rather than a setting. The Rainbow Chakra has 6 coils, and the number tells you about coverage rather than power: more coils won’t make the field any stronger, but they do spread it more evenly over the whole mat.

My FInal verdict

If you’re big on meditation, the HealthyLine Rainbow Chakra is surely the best mat you can get. Healhyline recentyl launched the 4th edition of this mat, it costs a bit more than the 3rd, but the PEMF tech is a lot better, 12 Gauss instead of 2. So go for the most recent model. Chakra alignment on top of all the other therapies really takes it to another level, and the 7 gemstones, one for each chakra, are a unique touch.
A sauna blanket, a carry bag and two covers come in the box, and with the 5-year warranty and the 90-day money-back guarantee.
The only catch? It costs a bit more than the average Healthyline mat, but if you are into meditation and relaxation I really don’t think you will regret it.

There is real research behind PEMF therapy, so yes, but how much you get out of it depends on what you are treating. The strongest evidence is on bone healing, where the FDA cleared PEMF devices decades ago. There is also a good number of studies on pain and stiffness from osteoarthritis showing a benefit. For a lot of the other things you read about online, like better sleep, more energy or detox, the studies are few, small, or simply not there. That doesn’t mean a mat won’t help you with those, it means nobody has properly checked yet. So the short answer is that PEMF works for some conditions and is unproven for others, and the marketing rarely tells you which is which.

It depends on what you want to treat, so there isn’t one answer for everyone. As a rule of thumb, most brands suggest sessions of 20 to 30 minutes, once or twice a day, and if you use the mat for sleep you can leave it on overnight at a low temperature. The frequency is the setting that changes the most from one goal to another: the low ones are for calming down and sleeping, the higher ones for energy, recovery and pain. The Rainbow Chakra already does this for you with its presets: Sleep runs at 3 Hz, Relax at 8 Hz, Energize at 12 Hz and Recovery at 20 Hz. Start from those and adjust the temperature and the timer as you go.

It can, and sleep is one of the things this mat is set up for. The M1 Sleep program runs the PEMF at 3 Hz, a very low frequency in the range your brain uses during deep sleep. It keeps the heat at 100°F (38°C), switches the lights off and sets the timer to 12:00, so you can leave it on all night. At that temperature the mat is meant for long and overnight use, and a bit of warmth on its own tends to help you unwind before you fall asleep. You can lie directly on the mat or slide it under your mattress, whichever you find more comfortable. Don’t expect a miracle on the first night, though: with sleep, the results tend to build up over a few weeks of regular use, and that is what the weekly protocol is for.

Studies do show that PEMF therapy can help with osteoporosis, mostly by slowing down bone loss and in some cases by improving bone density. Bone is where PEMF has the longest track record: it has been used for decades on fractures that refuse to heal, and the osteoporosis research builds on that. What the studies don’t say is that a mat replaces the rest. You still need your calcium and vitamin D, some weight-bearing exercise, and whatever medication your doctor has prescribed. The mat goes on top of those, not instead of them, and it is worth telling your doctor that you are using one. Sessions need to be regular to do anything for bone, so plan on using it daily for months rather than now and then.
