Welcome to my OmniPEMF NeoSurround Mat review!

Most PEMF devices need you to wear them or lie on them. The NeoSurround doesn’t. It’s a contactless room device. You put it down somewhere, you sit or sleep near it, and it does the rest. When you walk into the room it starts, and when you leave it stops.

The Mat is the full version of that idea. You get the room device, with everything it does, plus a full-body mat. When you want the PEMF right on your body, you plug in the mat and lie on it. When you’d rather have it fill the whole room, you use the device alone. You pick one or the other, whenever it suits you.

And here is the part that stands out. Most PEMF systems at this level give you a mat and nothing else. The NeoSurround Mat gives you two devices in one purchase, the room unit and the full-body mat. The PEMF frequency is how many times per second the magnetic field pulses, and it’s measured in hertz. The NeoSurround Mat runs from 1 to 100 Hz, on the mat and on the room device alike. That is a very wide range, about as good as it gets in a home system, and it covers every treatment and condition PEMF is used for.

What It’s Like to Own the NeoSurround Mat

Everything else on this page can be measured, and what comes next can’t. None of it will tell you whether the OmniPEMF NeoSurround Mat is a good mat. What it might tell you is whether you are still using it a year from now, and that is the question worth asking.

OmniPEMF NeoSurround Mat Functions and Controls

No brand offers as many functions as OmniPEMF does, and the NeoSurround Mat goes a step further than anything they made before. One app runs everything, both the room device and the full-body mat.

You control the NeoSurround Mat and the ambience device from the OmniPEMF app, which connects to the unit over bluetooth. There are 12 ready-made programs covering pretty much every kind of PEMF treatment, and they run on the room device and on the mat alike. There is also a custom program, where you set your own intensity, frequency and duration.

The app also has a 24H Scheduler for the room device. You lay out a whole day of therapy in advance, up to 9 sessions, each one with its own start time, program and length. The device then runs through them in order, one after the other.

A day could be Energy and Vitality at 08:00, Deep Relaxation at 14:00 and Sleep at 22:00. Put that together with the motion sensor and the whole thing runs on its own. The schedule decides what plays and when, and the sensor decides whether it plays at all. You set it up once and forget about it.

PIR (Motion) Sensor

The room device has a motion sensor built in, and I think it’s one of the smartest things in the whole system. Walk into the room and it switches itself on, with nothing to press. Walk out, and after a moment it goes back to standby by itself. It always knows if someone is in the room. That is what makes contactless PEMF work in real life, because a device you have to switch on by hand is one you slowly stop using.

The NeoSurround Mat comes with everything you need to use it and to carry it around. You get the room device, the full-body mat, a charger with its cables, and a small test tube. The test tube is a nice touch. PEMF makes no noise and you feel nothing while it runs, so the tube is your way to check that the device is actually putting out a field.
To carry it, you get a large padded bag with a shoulder strap for the mat, and a separate smaller bag for the room device. Each part has its own place, so you can store the whole set or move it around without having to find something to put it in.

My NeoSurround Mat review wouldn’t be complete without the fine print on returns and warranty. You have a 60-day return window if the Mat turns out not to be for you, and that takes most of the risk out of trying something at this price. But the number that tells you more is the warranty. You are covered for 2 years, and that can stretch to 26 months.

My FInal verdict

Almost every full-body PEMF mat out there is just that, a mat. The OmniPEMF NeoSurround Mat costs about the same, or less, than the others, and gives you a lot more. You get the mat for full-body sessions, plus the “ambience” room device with its high-intensity coil and the phone app with 13 preset programs, plus the custom mode. The device also has the motion sensor that turns it on when you walk in, and the scheduler that runs your day for you.
So the real comparison is not this mat against other mats, it’s two devices against one. You get the full-body session when you lie down, and the quiet room session running in the background the rest of the time, all from the same app. The one thing to put up with is that it has to stay plugged in, there is no battery.
That is why this is the bundle I would point most people to. If you want PEMF that covers the whole day, in the room and on your body, get this one.

It compares well, mostly because it isn’t quite the same kind of product. Almost every full-body PEMF mat is sold on its own, while the NeoSurround Mat gives you the mat plus the contactless room device, for about the same money. Where it gives some ground is that it has to stay plugged in, since there is no battery. Yes, as far as I can tell. OmniPEMF has built a good reputation in the wellness world, and the NeoSurround is one of several PEMF devices they make, so it isn’t a first attempt. The device is certified to the IEC 60601-1 and 60601-1-2 standards, which cover the electrical safety and the electromagnetic compatibility of medical equipment. You also get a 60-day return window and a 2-year warranty on top, so if yours turns out to have a problem, you are covered either way. It does, for some things. PEMF has real science behind it, but the results hang on what you are treating. The strongest evidence is on bone healing, where PEMF has been used since the late 1970s to help fractures that refuse to heal. There is also decent support for pain and stiffness in osteoarthritis, mostly in the knee. For other uses, like sleep, energy or general wellness, the studies are small, mixed, or not there at all. A lot of what you read online about those is marketing dressed up as research. So it works for a few conditions, probably helps with some others, and is unproven for the rest. That depends on what you are treating, and each issue has its own frequency and its own session length. The low frequencies, under 10 Hz, are used for relaxation and sleep. The middle of the range goes to pain and recovery, and the higher end to focus and energy. Most brands suggest sessions of 20 to 30 minutes, once or twice a day, and that is a sensible place to start before you try anything longer. Yes, and it’s one of the better uses for a PEMF mat. Osteoarthritis has a fair amount of research behind it, mostly on the knee, and the studies point to less pain and a bit more mobility rather than a cure. Pick the Pain Control program and lie on the mat so that the sore joint rests right over it. The mat runs at a low intensity, and the field is strongest at the surface. With the mat you get the PEMF straight against the joint instead of across the room, which is what you want for something this localized. Give it a few weeks of regular sessions before you judge it, since the effect builds up over time. It can, though the evidence here is thinner than it is for arthritis. There are a few small studies on diabetic neuropathy, and the results are mixed: some found less pain and tingling, others found little difference. Nobody has shown in people that it repairs the nerves, so think of it as relief from the symptoms and not as a fix. Choose the Pain Control program and lie on the mat with the affected area over it, so the PEMF reaches the nerves directly. If it’s your feet, that is easy enough to arrange on a full-body mat. Most people can use it, but there is a short list of who shouldn’t. PEMF isn’t recommended for anyone with a pacemaker or another electronic implant, including a cochlear implant, as the magnetic field can interfere with the electronics. A mechanical heart valve is on the list too, and so is a non-MRI-safe IUD. It isn’t recommended with active bleeding either, as PEMF increases blood flow, nor after an organ transplant, nor with epilepsy. Pregnancy is on the list as well, mainly because nobody has tested PEMF on pregnant women, so the sensible thing is to leave it alone until after. If you have any medical condition at all, check with your doctor before you buy.

Yes, they can. The NeoSurround Mat is certified to IEC 60601-1 and 60601-1-2, which are the standards for medical electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility. So it has been through the same kind of testing as a medical device. Still, there is very little research on PEMF in children, so it pays to be careful. With children under 12 in the room, keep to the low-frequency programs such as Deep Relaxation, Improve Sleep, Quiet Mind or Open Heart, which are the calming ones. Stay away from the focus and energy programs, which are stimulating by design. Keep the device clear of the child’s head, as the field is strongest close to the unit and drops off with distance. And remember the motion sensor: the device switches on when anyone walks in, a child included. If you’d rather it stayed off while they play in there, use the scheduler to keep those hours free.

No, and that is by design. The control unit drives one set of coils at a time. When you plug the mat in, the room coil switches off and the PEMF comes from the mat alone. Unplug it and the room device takes over again. You don’t really lose anything, because the two cover different moments of the day. When you are lying on the mat you already have the field right against your body, at 1 to 3.8 Gauss. When you get up and go about your day, the room device takes over with its own, much stronger field, and the motion sensor decides when it runs. The 12 programs work on both, so whatever you set up carries over from one to the other. You run one or the other, whichever suits the moment, never both at once.

A normal PEMF mat is only a mat. You lie on it, you run a program, and when you get up the therapy stops. The NeoSurround Mat comes with the full room device as well.
