This one is a bit different: the Phymat Amethyst PEMF Mat is built around amethyst and very little else.

Most PEMF mats mix a handful of different crystals together. Phymat went the other way and filled 90% of this mat with amethyst, betting that less variety means more focus. The price is attractive, and they make some pretty bold claims about what amethyst can do for you.

So does putting everything on one crystal actually work better, or is it mostly clever marketing? In this Phymat Amethyst PEMF Mat review I look at how the mat really performs, past the purple hype.

The frequency is how many times per second the magnetic field goes through a full cycle, and it is measured in hertz. The Phymat Amethyst Mat runs at a fixed frequency of 50 Hz.

Each coil is a loop of copper wire sitting inside the mat, and when the controller sends current through it, that is what makes the pulsed field. A mat with more coils is not stronger, it just spreads the field more evenly over the whole surface.

My FInal verdict

If what you want is the natural healing properties of amethyst with PEMF on top, this mat is for you. Amethyst is known for its calming energy, and it’s believed to reduce stress, clear the mind and keep your emotions in balance. The Phymat Amethyst PEMF mat combines far infrared warmth, negative ions and genuine amethyst stones, which makes it a good fit for meditation, or if you like a holistic approach to mind and body.
The PEMF side is where you compromise. It is either on or off, with no programs and nothing to adjust, so if you want to play with frequencies and intensity this is not the mat for that.
The accessory set is pretty good, and the price is one of the best you can find at this price.

For some things they do, and the research is real, but how much you get out of it depends on what you are treating. PEMF has been used in hospitals for decades to help bones heal, and there are decent studies on pain and inflammation, especially in the joints. Where it gets murky is everything else. A lot of sellers promise results the studies do not support, and the internet is full of claims that nobody has ever tested. So a PEMF mat can help you with specific problems, but it is not a cure for everything, whatever the ads say.

There is no single answer, because it depends on what you are treating. Different conditions call for different frequencies, and the length of the session changes with them too. As a rough rule, the lower frequencies are the ones usually used for relaxation and sleep, the higher ones for pain and recovery, and most brands suggest sessions of 20 to 30 minutes. On this mat part of the question is answered for you: the PEMF runs in a fixed 1-30 Hz range, there is nothing to set, and it switches itself off after 20 minutes.

It can help. Lie on it for a session before bed, or put it under your mattress and sleep on top of it. The far infrared warms you up, the amethyst is prized for its calming effect, and the whole thing makes it easier to wind down at the end of the day. If you sleep on it, keep the heat low, because you do not want the full 160°F under you all night. A session in the evening is the simpler option, and the PEMF switches itself off after 20 minutes anyway, so you do not have to think about it.

Yes, and osteoporosis is one of the conditions PEMF has actual studies for. Bone healing is where PEMF started, and there are studies showing it can help with bone density, so a mat like this one is a reasonable thing to add to what your doctor already has you doing. It is not a replacement for that, though. PEMF works alongside your treatment, your diet and your exercise, not instead of them, so talk to your doctor before you change anything.
