Welcome to my Hooga PEMF Belt review! It’s the only wearable PEMF device I know of that runs several therapies at the same time. Basically, it’s a full body mat strapped around your waist, and that’s pretty impressive. PEMF, red light, far infrared heat, negative ions and hot stones all fit in one compact belt. On paper, that makes it the best option for going straight after back pain.

PEMF Belt Specs and Features

Reading the Spec Sheet

1-50HzPEMF Frequency Range

PEMF frequency is how many times per second the magnetic field pulses, measured in hertz. On the PEMF Belt it goes from 1 to 50 Hz. That’s a wide range from good technology, and it opens up more treatments and conditions for you.

10GaussPEMF Intensity

The intensity tells you how strong the magnetic field coming out of the device is, and it’s measured in gauss. The PEMF Belt is rated at 10 Gauss. It sits on the lower side of medium, which is where treatment starts to work better.

1PEMF Coil

Coils are the loops of copper wire inside the belt that turn the controller’s current into the pulsed field.

Other Therapies

Heating / Far Infrared Rays Therapy (FIR)

Up to 158°F

The belt gives off far infrared light in the 5 to 14 μm range. You can set the temperature anywhere from 86°F (30°C) to 158°F (69°C). That heat reaches deep into the muscles and joints. The relief is steady, it lasts, and it helps you relax.

Red Light Therapy

12 LEDs · 660 nm

The belt’s 12 LEDs use visible red light at a 0.66 μm wavelength, which works on the cells under the skin without making any heat. Where FIR relies on warmth, red light sets off biological processes in those cells that help the tissue recover and regenerate.

Crystal Healing Therapy

2 Gemstones Types

Inside the Hooga PEMF Belt there are 2 types of crushed gemstone, and they send out negative ions once they get hot:

  • Amethyst
  • Tourmaline

Negative Ion Therapy

cc N/D

When the belt heats up, the gemstones inside it release negative ions. These may support detox processes, improve circulation where the belt sits and ease tension in the area around it.

What It’s Like to Own the PEMF Belt

Most of this review is about things you can measure, and this part isn’t. None of it will tell you whether the Hooga PEMF Belt is a good belt. What it might tell you is whether you’ll still be using it a year from now, and that’s the question worth asking.

Portability

Low

There’s no battery, so you need an outlet. Hooga gives you no bag, and it’s also a bit heavy.

Versatility

Maximum

5 therapies say it all. You can wear it on any part of your body, in many different ways.

Comfort

Good

It’s a bit stiff and heavy, but you can still wear it and forget about it.

Hooga PEMF Belt Functions and Controls

How you control it

Hooga Controller

From the controller you can change the frequency, the session time and the heat. If you’d rather just start, there are also 8 preset programs to pick from, to get a session going right away. There’s no way to save a routine of your own. You can still set the frequency by hand, though.

What Settings Does the Hooga PEMF Belt Have?

Frequency control

FULLY ADJUSTABLE UP TO 30 HZ

The Hooga controller lets you adjust the frequency freely, but the manual selection only gets you to 30 Hz. To use a higher frequency you have to use the preset programs.

Hooga PEMF Belt Accessories

No accessories come with the Hooga PEMF Belt, not even a basic pouch to store it in. A carry bag would have been nice, especially if you plan to take it with you. Then again, it needs A/C power and it isn’t built for travel, so portability doesn’t seem to have been a priority.

Hooga PEMF Belt Warranty and Returns

The warranty on the Hooga PEMF Belt covers 3 years, which is solid. It suggests the brand trusts how well the belt is built and how long it will last. You also get 60 days to send it back. That’s enough time to try it without any risk and see if PEMF therapy is right for you.

Warranty

3 Years

Good coverage, but they don’t say much about it beyond the number itself. Check policy.

Returns

60 Days

No fee, and you get a discounted shipping label with the cost taken out of the refund. Check policy.

HSA and FSA

Eligible

If you have funds in a health savings or flexible spending account, you use them to pay and effectively save whatever your tax rate is. For most people it’s somewhere around 30%.

Is the Hooga PEMF Belt Worth it?

3.4out of 5

My FInal verdict

The Hooga PEMF Belt is the only wearable with 5 therapies working together. Other wearables stop at PEMF. This one adds far infrared heat, red light, negative ions and hot stones, which by itself is a real achievement.
It only works on A/C power, so you’re tied to an outlet, and a battery would have made it perfect. On the other hand, you’re covered for 3 years, and if it doesn’t work for you, you have 60 days to return it. The features are above average too.
For everything it offers, the price is surprisingly affordable. In my opinion it’s the best wearable you can buy if you want several therapies in one, and it’s one of my personal favorites.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mainly, it gives you 5 therapies at once, where most PEMF wearables give you PEMF and nothing else. Along with the PEMF field, there’s far infrared heat that goes up to 158°F and red light from 12 LEDs. On top of that you get negative ions, plus crushed amethyst and tourmaline that warm up with the belt. That’s closer to what a full body mat gives you than to what you’d get from a basic PEMF pad.
It also costs less than you’d expect for all that. The catch is that it only runs on A/C power and there’s no carry bag, so it’s a device for home rather than for travel. My ranking of the best PEMF wearables compares them on price, warranty, accessories, functions, therapies and technology.

Hooga is a legitimate brand, and it has built a solid name for itself in wellness. It shows in how this belt is sold: the warranty lasts 3 years, you can return it within 60 days, and it’s HSA and FSA eligible. Those are the terms you want to see before you spend a few hundred dollars on a device you’ve never tried.
Even so, read the warranty and return conditions before you order, so you know exactly what’s covered and what isn’t. For more on the brand, have a look at my Hooga review page, or go straight to their website.

For some conditions, yes. PEMF has real science behind it, and the strongest evidence is for bone healing. It has been used for decades to help fractures that won’t heal on their own. There’s also research on joint pain, like knee osteoarthritis, and on pain and swelling after surgery. Most of those studies use clinical devices with their own settings, though. A good result in a study doesn’t automatically carry over to a wearable.
The trouble is that a lot of what you read online promises far more than that. I’ve gone through which claims hold up and which are just hype in my article on PEMF mat benefits.

It depends on what you’re treating, because each condition has its own frequency range and session length that work best. The belt covers 1 to 50 Hz, and you can set it by hand or pick one of the 8 preset programs. The presets go from 1.2 to 39.6 Hz, and most of them run for 20 minutes, with one that runs for 40.
If you’re not sure where to start, a preset is an easy way in. You can adjust from there once you know what you need. Use my PEMF frequency chart to find the settings that suit your condition.

Yes, it can help. Put the belt right on the joint or area where the arthritis is, so the relief stays where you need it. The heat does part of the work, since warmth is one of the simplest ways to loosen stiff joints. The belt heats from 86°F to 158°F, so you can start low. On the PEMF side, studies on osteoarthritis, mostly of the knee, have found it eases pain, though the results vary from person to person.
It won’t cure arthritis, and if you’re already being treated, check with your doctor before you start. There’s more on the research, plus a weekly protocol, in my guide on PEMF for arthritis.

Placed on the area where you feel the symptoms, the belt can help with neuropathy too. The research on PEMF for neuropathy is more mixed than it is for joint pain, though. Some studies found less pain, and others found no clear difference from a placebo. Watch the heat as well. Neuropathy can dull the feeling in your skin, so you might not notice when the belt gets too hot, and it can reach 158°F. Keep it at the low end on any area where your sensation isn’t what it used to be.
Want the research, and a weekly protocol made for neuropathy symptoms? My PEMF for neuropathy guide covers both.
