The frequency is how many times per second the magnetic field pulses, and it is measured in hertz (Hz). The Nushape mat goes from 1 to 50 Hz. That is a wide range, and it means good technology: more treatments and more conditions are open to you than with a basic mat.

The intensity is the strength of the magnetic field the mat puts out, and it is measured in gauss. The Nushape mat runs at a fixed intensity of 70 Gauss, which is quite high, and at that level you really want a way to turn it down, which you can’t on this mat, unfortunately.

This is a natural kind of heat: invisible far infrared light (3 to 50 μm) slowly warms the gemstones in the mat, up to 160°F (70°C). That warmth then makes its way into the body from the inside out. The Nushape PEMF Mat has a graphene layer built into it. Graphene is a very good conductor of heat, so the mat warms up faster and more evenly. That makes the sessions more comfortable, and it should also make the heat therapy work better, since the warmth stays even across the whole mat.

My FInal verdict

The Nushape PEMF Mat is the only mat with a graphene layer that spreads the heat faster and more evenly, and heat is a big part of what a mat like this does for you.
Where it falls short is the extras. There are no accessories, and the warranty is 1 year, about as short as they come. The price is fair for what you get, but not low enough to make up for those things, and the fixed intensity at 70 Gauss is another drawback that I cannot ignore.

It doesn’t make my list of the best mats, even though it has the technology to. The graphene layer is a thing that sets it apart. The problem is everything around the technology. When I compare mats I look at the same things every time: price, warranty, the accessories you get in the box, the functions, the therapies on top of PEMF, and the technology itself. The Nushape does well on price and on the technology, but it gives you no accessories and only a short warranty, and that costs it a lot of ground against the mats that get those things right. Yes, Nushape is a real wellness brand with a solid reputation. That said, trusting a brand and trusting a product are two different things. Nushape stands behind this mat with a 1-year warranty and a 30-day return policy, which is not much, but it is real coverage that you can claim if something goes wrong. What I would do before buying is read the warranty and the return terms all the way through, so you know what is covered and what isn’t, and what a return would cost you. Yes, but not for everything, and not as much as the ads say. PEMF has real research behind it, and the strongest part of it is bone healing: PEMF devices have been cleared by the FDA for fractures that refuse to heal, and that goes back decades. There is also decent evidence for some kinds of pain, mostly knee osteoarthritis, and for pain and swelling after surgery. For most of the other claims, sleep, energy, detox and so on, the studies are small, mixed, or missing. The internet is full of inflated promises about these mats, and it can be hard to tell the real benefits from the marketing. In my guide to PEMF mat benefits I go through the claims one by one and say which ones the evidence supports.

It depends on what you are treating, so there is no single answer. As a rule of thumb, most brands recommend sessions of 20 to 30 minutes, once or twice a day, and that is a reasonable place to start with the Nushape too. The frequency matters more than people think. The low frequencies, roughly under 10 Hz, are the ones used for relaxation and sleep, while the higher ones are used for pain and for energy. This mat goes from 1 to 50 Hz, and the 8 preset programs pick both the frequency and the intensity for you, so you don’t have to work it out yourself unless you want to. It can, and sleep is one of the main reasons people buy a PEMF mat in the first place. The Nushape has a Sleep program among its 8 presets, so you don’t have to choose a frequency yourself. You can use it in two ways: lie on it for a session before bed, or put it under your mattress and let it run while you fall asleep. Either way, give it a couple of weeks before you judge it, because this is not something that works on the first night for everyone, and the effect tends to build up with regular use. Bone is the area where PEMF has the strongest evidence, so yes, this is one of the conditions a mat like this is actually suited for. Studies on osteoporosis show that PEMF can slow down bone loss and, in some cases, improve bone density, though most of them are small and it is used alongside your medication, not instead of it. The Nushape is a full body mat, 75 x 31.5 inches, so the hips and the spine, where osteoporosis does the most damage, are on the mat during the session. If you are being treated for it, talk to your doctor before you start, and keep taking whatever you have been prescribed.
